The objective of the following research was to study the effect of the alcoholic extract of mango skin when incorporating it into active biodegradable films manufactured from mango seed starch. Mango skin waste from the Kent variety was used in a drying and maceration process to obtain the extract (ME). The extract was added in the gelatinization process of the films in concentrations of 5% and 10% v/v. The optical properties of the mango extract were characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, while the identification of the functional groups was carried out by FTIR spectroscopy. The morphology of the films was studied, while the active properties were characterized using kinetics of water absorption and biodegradation by burial in soil. The mechanical properties were also studied, finding an effect on the elasticity of the films. Finally, the antimicrobial properties were studied using the inhibition zone technique, observing good results against the bacteria S. aureus and E. coli. The results show a good incorporation of the mango skin extract into the polymer matrix, reflected in the improvement of the mechanical and active properties of the films.Descargas
