The development of packaging strategies is an essential tool to ensure the safety and quality of food. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate active packaging and antimicrobial packaging technologies used to guarantee food safety. Through a systematic review methodology of scientific literature, considering articles not older than 6 years and based on language criteria. The new strategies for active and antimicrobial packaging to enhance food safety include the development of organic and inorganic nanoparticles, the use of biopolymeric and antimicrobial films, and modified atmosphere packaging. Countries with a significant focus on these innovative strategies include China, Brazil, and India, while lesser attention is given to Mexico, Egypt, Canada, Saudi Arabia, etc. The analyzed packaging strategies show promise in evolving as advanced and eco-friendly materials aimed at contributing to sustainable development and safeguarding food integrity.Descargas
