Storage management model based on Lean Warehouse Management and Systematic Layout Planning

Abstract

The logistics and storage sector in Peru has presented a growing demand for its services in recent years due to the increase in imports and the interest of companies from other sectors in outsourcing their storage process. Therefore, the implementation of efficient warehouse and infrastructure management has been essential to meet this demand without the quality of its services being negatively affected. This article focused on improving the efficiency of the picking and location processes of goods in a warehouse through a warehouse management model. To do this, a diagnosis of the company began, and then Value Stream Mapping, the 5S methodology (belonging to Lean Warehouse Management) and Systematic Layout Planning were used to reduce the rate of late orders through improvement inventory management and human resources. Likewise, the importance of this research lies in the fact that it is an example of the application of Lean tools in a warehouse, which is an innovative concept in the sector and little applied in the country, and promote research to improve processes in Peruvian warehouses, since there are few scientific articles that develop topics related to this. As a final result, said index was reduced from 14.69% to 3.71% and it was highlighted that it is economically viable, since the NPV (S/. 12,659) and IRR (45.03%) are positive.
