Abstract

Incidents in underground mining, especially those related to rockfall, represent a critical problem affecting both worker safety and operational continuity. In Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) deposits, where geological and structural characteristics can increase the risk of rock detachment, having a solid risk management strategy is crucial. The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle methodology serves as an effective tool to identify, assess, and mitigate these risks. This research aims to reduce the frequency of accidents caused by rockfall in IOCG deposits by implementing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) based on the PDCA cycle. To achieve this, a comprehensive analysis of incidents over the past five years in critical areas will be conducted, classifying them by risk level using the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRAC) system. Based on these results, specific control measures will be proposed to improve safety conditions and prevent accidents, ensuring a safer and more efficient working environment.
