This work presents a report on the use of ChatGPT in a Computer Science I course during the 1st semester of 2023, aiming to explore alternative approaches in problem-solving within the field, compare ideas, and promote active learning, among other objectives. Throughout the course, delivered to 46 randomly selected students, examples and exercises were initially presented in a "traditional" manner, followed by deeper discussions facilitated by ChatGPT. As a conclusion of the experimentation, we conducted three exercises: analysis and error search in HTML code, review of JavaScript code, and analysis of the execution of a JavaScript program. Students tackled these activities without the assistance of ChatGPT initially. Subsequently, they repeated the exercises with the support of ChatGPT, enabling a comparative analysis of the results and the juxtaposition of ideas. Students were encouraged to reflect on their experiences using the tool upon concluding the course. Overall, the majority of students have a positive/very positive impression of ChatGPT, recognizing its utility and potential. Several students emphasize the need to handle it with caution and acknowledge its limitations in certain areas. The importance of formulating precise questions for better results is also highlightedDescargas
