Properties of concrete f ́c 210 kg/cm2 with the addition of fan-shell powder (Agropecten purpuratus)

Resumen

The excessive consumption of construction materials is causing the deterioration of ecosystems and an increase in environmental pollution, making it necessary to search for new materials to replace traditional inputs. This research seeks to evaluate the mechanical properties of a concrete f'c 210 kg/cm2 with the addition of fan shell powder. For this purpose, three treatments with additions of 5%, 25%, and 65% of fan shell powder (SP) and a standard concrete (SC) were used, with 7, 14, and 28 days of curing; their physical (unit weight, exudation, and slump) and mechanical (compressive and tensile strength) properties were evaluated. The results showed that, at the level of physical properties, the addition of 5% and 35% of SP, present acceptable consistencies for its workability, with slump levels within the ranges of 3 to 4 inches, however, in the exudation a linear relationship is shown, while in the unit weight, the higher the addition of SP, the lower it is, obtaining a reduction of up to 8.2%. 2%; in the mechanical properties, the addition of SP affects the compressive strength of the concrete, evidencing a notorious increase of 21.80% and 55.56%, in the additions of 5% and 35% of AC at 28 days, compared to the SC; however, for the tensile strength, the SC, showed the highest value at 28 days, observing in the treatments under study, a reduction in this parameter of 25.55% and 25.82%. It was concluded that the use of SP, at addition levels of 5% and 35%, has a potential for its use in the production of concrete f'c 210 kg/cm2.
