Abstract

The main objective of the research work is to compare and determine the influence of the incorporation at 4% of three different types of asphalt emulsion (slow breaking (CSS-1H), fast breaking (CRS-1H) and controlled (CQS- 1H)) in the mechanical resistance for an affirmed material from the city of Cajamarca (Peru). For the development of this research, a sample of material was obtained from the “El Guitarrero” quarry, which will be used to obtain physical and mechanical properties through laboratory tests. The tests considered were granulometry, Atterberg limits, abrasion, Modified Proctor and California Bearing Ratio (CBR). At the end of the investigation, it was determined that the wear value in the abrasion test for the standard sample was 48.52%; Likewise, its CBR value at 0.1” penetration was 45%. On the other hand, the samples with the addition of 4% of slow breaking emulsion (CSS-1H), fast breaking (CRS-1H) and controlled breaking (CQS-1H) presented a CBR at 1” of penetration of 64%, 44 % and 43%, respectively, reaching the conclusion that the incorporation of emulsions improves the mechanical resistance capacity of the soil in some cases; Therefore, depending on the type of emulsion, a better or worse result will be obtained.
