The study evaluated the effect of nanoparticles of anodic manganese dioxide (NDMA) on the carbonation of high strength concrete. Nine mix designs were carried out with NDMA replacing 0, 5 and 10 % of the cement, and water/cement ratios of 0.40, 0.45 and 0.50. A total of 171 cylindrical specimens were produced, of which 135 were tested for compressive strength at ages of 7, 14, 28, 56 and 90 days, and 36 specimens for accelerated carbonation tests, for which a carbonation chamber was designed according to ASTM B117 specifications. The results showed that the compressive strength increased up to 11% for the 0.40 w/c concrete with 10% NDMA, while for w/c=0.45 and 0.50 with NDMA, it decreased by an average of 10%. The carbonation values obtained in the NDMA concrete in all cases were much lower than those of the control concrete, and the values obtained were close to 3 mm/year0.5, indicating an improvement in the quality of the NDMA concrete. Finally, the potential of NDMA as an admixture to reduce the carbonation attack of reinforced concrete was demonstratedDownloads
