Resumen

Between the years 2011-2023, there was a notable increase in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere due to a lack of awareness and technological innovation in favor of the environment, which is annually impacted by climate change, a significant rise in temperature, and various negative factors. Under this premise, the present exhaustive analysis aimed to relate the bibliometric characteristics and content of the Carbon Footprint as a tool to promote sustainability in the business sphere. Thus, a search was done on various scientific databases including Scopus, Redalyc, Dialnet, and Scielo. Keywords used included: Carbon Footprint, climate change, carbon neutral, and CO2 emissions. Subsequently, inclusion and exclusion criteria were considered regarding study variables such as titles, year of publication, type of research, language, quantitative study results, and publication in open access, among other criteria. Bibliometric results have shown that research on the Carbon Footprint in this case has been published in equal percentages in both English (50%) and Spanish (50%). On the other hand, databases with the highest number of research on the topic are Scopus, Redalyc, Dialnet, and Scielo. In conclusion, the Carbon Footprint represents a significant threat in the industrial sector due to the high amount of CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere. Organizations and companies are not achieving sustainable development as they continue to impact ecosystems. Therefore, there is a need to promote environmental awareness and cooperation across all production sectors to counteract the Carbon Footprint and ultimately eliminate it in the future.
