Factors that Increase the Effectiveness of Implementing Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract

The factors that improve efficiency in the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) were evaluated, especially in Latin American industries. The methodology employed was a systematic review based on the PICO and PRISMA guidelines, using the SCOPUS database to select relevant studies in English and Spanish. After a filtering process, 29 articles were selected that addressed aspects related to the implementation and efficiency of OSHMS. The results show an increase in publications since 2019, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted the need for effective management systems of psychosocial and biological risks. It is concluded that the involvement of senior management and a strong preventive culture are key to the success of system, in addition to external factors such as regulation, technology and market expectations. Organizational integration and commitment emerge as critical aspects to improve the effectiveness of OSHMS in industrial environments.
