In this research, the theme related to information systems and knowledge management is described and how they complement and interact with each other. Its characteristics, key concepts and in which areas are used, main similarities and differences that occur between these systems are described. Its importance is visualized in information technologies as a support mechanism to generate or transfer knowledge. Therefore, a model of knowledge management system is designed that integrates the fundamental product of an information system such as processed information and that through the process of managing knowledge is intended to generate new knowledge.
