Resumen

The objective of the study was to analyze the impact of INDECOPI's PATENTA program on innovation in Peru. Since 2014, this program has driven significant growth in patent applications through technical, legal and educational support to inventors and companies. The methodology employed the PECODR framework, considering searches based on research questions, keywords, databases and selection periods. The results show that utility model applications outnumber patent applications due to their lower technical complexity. National applications grew from 275 in 2014 to 805 in 2023, reflecting significant progress, although 83% of the activity is concentrated in Lima, leaving other regions lagging behind. Gender gaps persist, with only 14% of applications made by women in comparable countries such as Mexico. The findings highlight that, prior to the program, costly and complex procedures discouraged the protection of inventions, exposing inventors to the loss of rights. Although PATENTA has promoted progress, more inclusive and decentralized policies are needed to strengthen innovation throughout the country.
