Abstract

This paper proposes a methodology to estimate the costs of accidents and incidents at work in a company in the field of transportation of hazardous materials and cargo in general. For which, data provided by a company in the field located in the City of Chiclayo was used during the period of 2017-2019. The proposal is based on the analysis of three methodologies for the Economic Evaluation of Work Accidents: the first proposal by the National Institute of Safety and Hygiene at Work (INSHT) of Spain the second, by the Basque Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (OSALAN) and the last, by the British Columbia Workers' Compensation Board (Work Safe BC), where it was possible to identify two variables in which the 3 methodologies coincide, and the similarity of the methods in which it stands out: The reliability of the results, the ease of completing the required data and the adaptability for implementation in different areas. Then, it was possible to structure a method from the integration of the 3 selected methodologies, the same one that was applied to the company mentioned at the beginning, obtaining as a result a similar Total Cost with the other methods. In conclusion, the proposal made generates reliable data, in the same way, due to its adaptability, the tool serves as a stimulus for the management of hazardous materials transport companies to make better decisions on preventive matters and, consequently, obtain a reduction and better management of the costs of these events.
