Abstract
In recent years, the number of agricultural export companies acquiring fair trade certification has significantly increased, aiming to achieve responsible business practices and demonstrate transparent and equitable trade with suppliers and customers. However, fair trade has been subject to various criticisms and controversies in its application in both developed and developing countries, such as its impact on improving the quality of life of small farmers, reducing environmental pollution, and influencing consumer decisions on agricultural products. Academia has approached these issues from different perspectives, approaches, and geographic locations, resulting in various contradictions for the Latin American reality. This study examines the main trends in fair trade, as generated through peer-reviewed publications, in Latin America during the period 2010-2020. The methodology used was qualitative and bibliographic, analyzing the publications using the systematic literature review technique and the VOSviewer software.
